I think it's an emergency—what do I do?

If something doesn’t feel right with your braces or aligners—like a poking wire, a broken bracket, or sudden discomfort—you don’t have to tough it out. While true orthodontic emergencies are rare, we know that unexpected issues can be stressful, especially for kids or anyone juggling a busy schedule. Give us a call, and we’ll walk you through next steps or get you in for a same-day visit if needed. At Tomblyn Family Orthodontics, we’re here to ease your worries and get your smile back on track—fast.

Benefits of emergency orthodontic care

Quick relief from discomfort

A poking wire or loose appliance can interrupt your day and derail your focus. Prompt care helps relieve irritation quickly so you can get back to your routine without stress.

Keeps treatment on track

Delaying action on an orthodontic issue can affect the progress of your treatment. Our responsive team ensures your braces or aligners continue working effectively without setbacks.

Personalized, doctor-provided care

Dr. T and Dr. Jen personally evaluate and treat every emergency patient, so you receive expert advice and hands-on adjustments without getting passed around.

Reach out immediately

Call our office at (512) 732-2500 or fill out the contact form online. New patient emergency calls are even answered after hours.

We assess the situation

We'll talk you through the symptoms, identify whether it's a true emergency, and offer helpful steps to ease discomfort until we can see you in-office—often the same day.

In-office evaluation

You'll be seen by Dr. T or Dr. Jen, who will carefully assess the issue and make any needed repairs or adjustments. Our goal is to fix the problem efficiently while minimizing your time in the chair.

Follow-up and support

After resolving the immediate issue, we’ll confirm your treatment plan is still on course and answer any questions you have. Ongoing care recommendations and adjustments will be discussed, so you feel confident moving forward.

Your Questions, answered

An orthodontic emergency includes broken brackets, loose bands, wires poking into the cheek or gums, or appliances that no longer fit properly. Pain that interferes with eating, sleeping, or daily activities is also cause for urgent attention. If you're unsure whether it's an emergency, call us—we'll help you decide what to do next.

If you’re experiencing a true medical emergency—such as severe trauma, uncontrolled bleeding, difficulty breathing, or signs of anaphylaxis—call 911 immediately. For orthodontic concerns like broken brackets, poking wires, or appliance discomfort, it’s best to call our office first. Most orthodontic emergencies can be handled quickly and safely by our team without a trip to the ER.

We’ve got you covered! New patients can reach us after hours for orthodontic emergencies. While we may not always be able to treat an issue the same day, we’ll make every effort to get you scheduled as soon as possible and walk you through immediate care steps in the meantime.
